This study investigated how 99 undergraduate nursing students in New York City perceive and utilize GenAI. A vast majority (92%) reported using GenAI for academic support, concept clarification, clinical tasks, and health promotion. Students highly value GenAI's ability to quickly provide accessible information, simplify complex topics, and improve writing skills through features like practice questions and grammar checks. However, significant concerns include subscription costs, the risk of over-reliance, information overload, and critical issues regarding accuracy and trustworthiness of information, leading to potential plagiarism. Students expressed a strong need for financial support, early and structured guidance on GenAI use, instructional modules, and clear guidelines for critical evaluation. Effective integration requires educators to provide introductory sessions, robust support programs, and foster an AI-friendly learning environment to ensure responsible and ethical GenAI application, preparing future nurses for an AI-driven healthcare landscape.
